JEAN-FRÉDÉRIC FESSELER

Inspired by the aesthetics and diversity of wood as a raw material, Jean-Frédéric Fesseler lends a voice to traditional craftsmanship in the form of contemporary design objects.

Born in Berlin with French roots, he learned the essential techniques of woodworking from his father, a furniture restorer with whom he still shares premises today. After his international education at the Belgian Institut Saint-Luc de Tournai and his studies at the Escuela Superior de Disseny i Art “Llotja” in Barcelona, he specialised in creating unique pieces with the highest quality standards.

Jean-Frederic combines the craftsmanship of artistic carpentry with stylistically clear product design, making wood a tangible form not only through precise surface finishing.

The central focus of his work is the designing of furniture and objects with movable elements as well as the manufacturing of writing instruments hand-turned from various precious woods.

Through his creative activity and his passion for high-quality wood, Jean-Frédéric wants to offer traditional craftsmanship new forms of artistic expression. In doing so, it is already important to him during the creative process to make the high-quality resources tangible and to give wood a soul.

Nominated for the Interior Innovation Award 2014, he has participated in numerous international exhibitions, including Beijing Design Week, ICFF New York 2018 and the Salone Satellite in Milan 2019. His work has also been exhibited at the Mint Gallery in London 2019.
